Do I still get to chose the times that i go to work when i get interviewed and employed ?

Question by Nadine: Do I still get to chose the times that i go to work when i get interviewed and employed ?
Yesterday I filled out an online application at an local Kroger groceries store and i was wanting to work to get some money. My job coach instructor and my parents and my sister have told me to put in the time availability slots on the job application as anytime so i could get a more chance of getting hired, but here’s the problem I’m still in school i am in college and pursuing to major in computer engineering and so i have days where i have to go to classes and study. I also have upcoming plans to travel out of town for Christmas and thanksgiving. I also need some time to buy some clothing too like dresses, skirts, pants, tops and shoes like stiletto high heels. I’m into fashion a lot and i like to wear whats hot and in style and i dress classy and i never dress like a tom boy. Do the employers and supervisors will still give me time to do all of my school work and personal activities ?? I’m still in school and i need time for school work and time to go shopping for clothing and shoes ?

No. You can put in your available times, but that doesn’t necessarily mean you will get them. Putting them in is mainly to let the employer know when you can work so the person who does the hiring can decide who will best fit the needs of the company. The company can hire whoever they want, so if you have very limited availability they will probably hire someone with a more flexible and open schedule.

Well, princess, here’s how it works. You tell them what time you are available and if they have work available during those hours then you will get to work. If not, the you won’t get to work. There are a lot of people out there who want to work so don’t be surprised if you don’t get a lot of hours. It’s first come, first served. The work hours are going to go to the people to are the most readily available, and that doesn’t sound like you.

if you are not going to be available to work then forget the application
I had a client who had a constant turn over of young people in her boutique, and especially around the holidays when she hired anyone, she fully explained to them that they would be required to work over the holidays
needless to say, almost to a fault, those same lately hired girls would beg off the Christmas schedule, and oftentimes it was because their parents were going somewhere for the holidays that they would not let them stay home——–
YOU CANNOT BELIEVE HOW FRUSTRATING THIS IS FOR AN EMPLOYER—–
if your personal life, shopping, school, etc. interferes with work, you better decide which is more important to you
when you are at work, you are expected to do the job, they are not paying you to do the things you like to do

they are not required to do so but most will make allowances, but shopping? get real. and you must be available for the training at their time, dont like it become a stripper they work the hours they chose for tips.

If they have an opening during the time you are available, they might. But just because they have an opening does not mean they are willing to work around your schedule.

If you are not available anytime, do not put it on the application. It can be considered very rude if they call you in and you then tell them you really are not available anytime like you stated.

I’ve been a retail manager and this is what I can tell you. They do “NOT” give time off for shopping for clothes. If you are applying for a job, you are expected to already have what will be needed, to start work. If you plan on traveling, they need to know this up front. Time off for personal activities?? Point blank: ABSOLUTELY NOT!! Time for shopping?? ABSOLUTELY NOT!! If you put on your application that you are available any time, and you are not, they will quickly figure out you lied. An employee who lies on the application, is a bad apple. They will lie about other things as well. If I were them, I would “NOT” hire you. Oh, and by the way, I had a young lady working for me that I hired. She was a lot like you. I fired her!!!! And she was “not” eligible for unemployment benefits due many factors that I had logged into her file and the consultations she had received from me. If you want to act, look and dress like a princess, then I suggest you wait to go job hunting. How long?? Until you grow up. Jobs are scarce. Employees are not. Employers can pick and chose and you’ve already stated what’s more important to you. And it certainly isn’t working……

    no you dont
the employer tells you when he needs you to work
your in college not high school so most employers will tell you to adjust your classes to your days off same for your shopping

you dont want to work you want a free check
fat chance princess this is the real world not the fantasy one you live in
